Multicolor Linoleum Block Reduction Printing Classes in Coeur d'Alene
PRINTMAKING · NOVEMBER 2026 · ADULTS & OLDER YOUTH
Turn a photo or an idea into a colorful print
Picture a linoleum print of your child, grandchild, pet, or someone special. In this hands-on class, you'll plan a design, carve it into a linoleum block, and print it in layers of color.
About the class
Reduction printing uses a single block. You print one color, carve away more of the block, then print the next color on top. Each layer adds depth to the finished print.
Over six 2-hour sessions, instructor Rod Strom will teach you how to plan, carve, and print multicolor linoleum prints. A clear, high-contrast photograph makes a great starting point for a portrait of a loved one or a pet. You're also welcome to work from flowers, scenery, abstracts, or an idea of your own. No starting photo is required.
Each session includes some short instruction and examples, then time to work on your own project. Rod stays close by with suggestions and guidance along the way.
If time and class interest allow, you may also try photo transfer printing using a gel plate, or make a second reduction print.
Some previous experience is highly recommended, but all levels are welcome. You don't need to be an expert. Class size is limited to 5 students, so you'll get plenty of individual attention.

About the instructor
Rod Strom spent 40 years as a physical therapist. Now retired, he has found his own artistic voice in linoleum block printing, something he never had time for while he was working.
Rod likes to break things down into easy, logical steps and give lots of examples and options, so you can create work that is truly yours. Questions and suggestions are always welcome.
