Three Gifts Under $50

FOR THE ARTISTS YOU LOVE

Longtime favorites for your favorite artists

Shopping for someone who paints, sketches, knits or crochets can be tricky. You know they'd love something for their craft, but you're not sure what they already own. These three picks are longtime favorites of ours, each one is under $50, and you can see and feel every one of them in the shop.

Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Water-Soluble Pastels

For the painter, the sketcher or the curious beginner.

These are one of Penny's personal favorites, and they surprise people every time. They're wax pastels that go on creamy and vivid, a lot like a really good crayon. Then you take a damp brush and move the color wherever you want it to go, and it blends like paint. Let it dry and you can add another layer on top.

They're simply fun to use, whether your artist has tried them before or not.

Stabilo CarbOthello Pastel Pencils

For the artist who loves drawing and detail.

These are soft pastel pencils with a semi-hard core, so they give you rich, strong pastel color while still holding a point. That makes them a great fit for fine lines, portraits and detail work. The 12-pencil set is a lovely way to explore pastels without committing to a big collection.

Want to make it extra special? Pair the set with one of our new Strathmore toned sketch pads, which come in gray, blue and tan. Toned paper lets your artist add shadows and white highlights on the same page, and it's a natural match for pastel pencils.

A Westcott sandpaper lead pointer makes a handy stocking stuffer to keep those tips sharp.

Yarn Bowls

For the knitter or crocheter in your life.

Any knitter will tell you that a ball of yarn loves to roll across the floor. A yarn bowl keeps it in place and lets the yarn feed out smoothly while you work.

Sue just brought in a charming new selection in ceramic and wood. Choose from a smiling sheep, a sweet cat face, hand-painted florals or striped mixed woods. Each one looks as pretty on a side table as it is useful.

Not sure what they'd like?

Come in and tell us a little about the person you're shopping for.

For a knitter or crocheter, we'll ask which one they do and whether they already have needles or hooks. Then we'll talk yarn weight and fiber, like wool, a blend or cotton.

For an artist, we'll ask whether they sketch or paint, and what they like to work with. A few simple answers help us point you to something they'll actually use.
